Classic Eagles over Classic Canadians
Bermuda Rugby Classic 2010

Last night, in the first semi final, Canada and the USA battled it out for a place in The Plate Final. While the Eagles looked favourites on paper, it was Canada who took first blood. Immediately after kickoff, a US clearance was charged down and David Cameron scored under the posts. Winston Stanley converted to give a 7-0 lead after only 1 minute. The Eagles struck back immediately with a Mike Harvey score in under three minutes. Sammy Gonzales converted to level the game. After the initial flurry, the match settled down into a hugely entertaining contest between old rivals.  A second try by Canada followed by a Roger Robinson score before half time gave Canada a 17-7 advantage. After the break an attack by the US asked questions of the Canadian defense. Canada held firm and attacked on the break. The US came back, scoring to the right of the post and closing the gap to 17-14. Dennis Walker scored again, with Gonzales adding the extra points to make it 21-17. Canada refused to be beaten and were repelled by several try saving tackles by the US wing. The Classic Eagles were able to clear their lines and advance to The Plate Final.
